Building a Small Honda Racer photos and text by J. Branson  Set your screen to 800x600
In these two photos you see the beginnings of what became a purpose built racing motorcycle for use in the USCRA 50cc GP racing class. It is was my intention to chronicle the development of this project and track the approximate cost in time and money spent. I chose the venerable Honda single cylinder OHC motor as the power plant due to it's reputation for indestructibility, reliability, economy and readily available parts supply. In each section I discuss   the reasons or theory behind whatever modifications and or designs of which I make use. Hit Counter

Here we see four wheels, two 17" WM0 width steel rims (leaning against pole and lying down) these two wheels came from a Honda CT90 moped. The other two wheels come from a Kawasaki KD100 dirt bike. I will be using a mixed set of components from these wheels. For example, Kawasaki hub and forks, Honda spokes and nipples and an after market rim. You should always keep careful records of the serial and model numbers of all parts bikes you may use, in the future you may need these to order replacement parts.
These are the motors I started with, the CT90 motor on the left never got used and after examination proved to be a worthy boat anchor. The C110 motor in the middle while an excellent little motor, is of the push-rod type and basically unsuitable for racing. On the far right is the XL70 motor that went on to become the CD-1 racing motor with help from many new parts and modifications
