Exhaust System 2002

Exhaust-mount-broken.jpg (24309 bytes) The Problem
Since we added more diffuser disks to the SuperTrapp system it has increased the weight on the end of the exhaust pipe. This has caused a vibration in the pipe which has broken the pipe mounting. Once the mounting broke the pipe vibrated enough to damage it at the point in enters the cylinder head. I have repaired the head pipe (not shown). And solved the mounting problem as shown below.
Exhaust-mount-parts.jpg (19293 bytes) This are the new parts I have made to mount the exhaust system. They are made of steel this time. The broken mount was made of aluminum which does not hold up well to the vibration, heat and flexing encountered with our exhaust system.  I have powder coated these parts to match the bike.
Exhaust-mount-new.jpg (29433 bytes) Here is a picture showing the new exhaust mount. The circular piece shown above replaces a spacer used in the rear engine mount, I have no worries about this piece breaking or becoming loose. The part shown on the right side above, is used as a link between the engine mount and the exhaust pipe. Most of the stress and vibration will be absorbed by this piece. As you can see I had to weld on a mounting point to the exhaust pipe. Hopefully this will not weaken the pipe and cause it to crack in this area. The weld is heavily gusseted to prevent this from happening. The pieces are attached using stainless steel bolts with self-locking nuts.
