Kitaco Racing Clutch Kit Parts Diagram

The internals of the Kitaco Race
Clutch kit. As you can see the major difference is that this kit moves the entire clutch
assembly from the crankshaft to the gearbox input shaft (main shaft). Why does it do this?
Well the big weak point of these Honda engines is that the clutch is mounted on the
crankshaft, the clutch cannot be balanced, plus it weighs about three pounds. It will
explode around 13,000 rpm. The Kitaco Clutch removes the weight of the clutch from the crankshaft and moves it to the gearbox input shaft and turns the clutch about only about 20% of crankshaft speed. which means you don't have to worry about the Kitaco unit exploding. The motor will rev much faster now that it no longer has to sping a three pound clutch at the same rpm as the crankshaft. Not to mention the crankshaft will last much longer without the three pound unbalanced clutch hanging off the end of it. It's a no lose situation... well except for the $750 US it will cost you to get a clutch like this. |

Yes Kitaco provides a new clutch
cover too. Also the bolts, cables, brackets and gaskets necessary. Be aware however that
the instructions are in Japanese so unless you are reasonably sure what you are doing you
might want to get some help. Some engines may require a new first gear. These kits comes
in three types, the difference is the number of teeth on the new main shaft supplied with
the kit... 11, 13, or 14. Well our engine came originally with a 12 tooth main shaft and a
36 tooth first gear so we had to purchase a new 35 tooth first gear (PN
23421-065-010) to match the 13 tooth main shaft that came in our Clutch Kit. Pehaps in the near future I will include more details of this kit and a scan of the instruction sheet included. |
