Race #2
Race # 2 at NHIS did not turn out quite as well as Race # 1.
Mary got a very poor start, having to make three attempts to get the bike started when the
flag dropped. The bike starts good but Mary was neglecting to develop enough speed before
dumping the clutch for the start. She was last coming into turn one but by the end of lap
1 she only had three bikes in front of her, two Suzukis and one Honda MB5. On turn three
of the second lap Mary encountered a false neutral while downshifting into the turn, while
leaned over in the tight turn three she got out of the neutral but downshifted into 2nd
gear, when she let the clutch out the rear tire lost traction and down she went. Mary
sustained no injuries and the bike only minor damage. Lesson learned - when you find a
false neutral always UPSHIFT first. New parts are already on order for the bike so we will
be ready for the September 6 race at NHIS. We will be entering the faster of the two 50cc
classes this time.

The broken windscreen and a small crack on the fairing behind the SPA sticker. Another small crack lower on the fairing where it attaches to the frame. I will be reinforcing these areas with fiberglass and touching up the paint work before the next race. |

Mary with the trophy she won in Race # 1. It was the first bike race she has ever won. Hopefully she will have a whole collection of these some day. |

This is the Honda MB5 that won Race # 2 after we retired with a crash and one Suzuki retired with engine problems. Nice bike, with the potential to go quite fast I think. Much weight could still be removed and I think the engine is stock. Smaller tires, expansion chamber, light weight seat and clip-on bars would reduce the weight quite a bit. I'd like to have one of these too. |
