Shift Plate Details
![]() |
A view showing the modifications I have made to the shift drum plate. The plate in front is the modified piece and the plate in the rear is a new part. Notice how I have deepened the notches that engage the detent roller, notably the Second gear notch. In the 98 race season we were having problems with the gear box skipping over second gear and hanging on the top of the area labeled "P" between 2nd and 3thrd gears. I have also slightly increased the notch size on neutral and 3thrd gear so they will not be so difficult to locate while riding the bike. I still may have to taper the sides of the platforms "P" to a more gentle slope if the shifter wants to hang in those areas. The bike will have to be test ridden to discover whether this modification must be done or not. |
| This shows the the function of
the various notches in the shift plate. This plate is un-modified but slightly worn. These
plates are made of very hard metal, a file won't touch them, to remove metal you will need
a small grinding bit or carbide burr. Even the carbide burr will be slow. 1
